“ Hawaiian fare at this restaurant and run by Mr. Craig Katsuyoshi. A friend of mine recommended the restaurant and it was great. Craig came out to the table to explain the origins of some of the native dishes. This place is an institution and has been around since 1946. Food was great, service was great and Craig's great hospitality won't soon be forgotten. If you haven't eaten here, do it, you won't regret it. ”
“ Delicious local Hawaiian food served with generous Aloha! - smoked Short ribs with Hawaiian pink sea salt is a must try! ”
“ I was born in Honolulu and always try to eat plate lunch at least once during each of my trips to the islands (I bartend for a Hawaiian spot on mainland, but it’s never the same as home). Helena’s was everything my soul and stomach needed, and I ate more than I thought I could. I ordered my favorites, including pork lau lau, kalua pork, lomi lomi salmon, chicken long rice, and poi. Helena’s was the best I’ve had on Oahu and a fraction of the price for similar quality on Maui. I was tempted to order some of the haupia (I LOVE haupia) and was happy that some was included with our table’s (massive) order. I would have ordered more of the haupia if we weren’t on our way to snorkeling. I can’t wait for my next visit to Oahu so that I can return to Helena’s and eat even more! ”
“ Great authentic Hawaiian food! A bit of a drive from downtown and the parking lot is super small. Wasn’t too busy when we went and also high chair friendly. Food was delicious and lives up to the expectations! ”
“ The food is by far the best local food we had. And we have tried L&L, and Rainbow Drive In. The staffs are vey nice and genuine. You will feel at home and comfortable while eating. Parking is outside and if the place is packed, spots are hard to find. The coconut jelly is great for hot weather. The butter fish is delicious. ”
“ First time trying Hawaiian food, and Helena Hawaiian Restaurant did not disappoint! The food was absolutely superb and packed with flavor. Every bite was a delight. The service was impressively fast, and the staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel so welcome. Overall, a fantastic dining experience—I’ll definitely be back! Highly recommended for anyone wanting to explore authentic Hawaiian cuisine. ”
“ It was well worth the time and effort to fight through rush hour traffic to get to this place. Local down to earth place where you can enjoy a fantastic meal while being yourself and enjoying the vibe. The food didn’t disappoint either. Food was well seasoned and flavorful. ”
“ The food here is arguably one of the best spots you’ll eat at. The hustle and bustle of the restaurant is fun, but we were in a rush and din’t want to wait for a spot. We opted to just eat in our car. All the meats were delicious and every time we come we get the Poi to see if it agrees with us better this time. Each time we fail to find enjoyment in it, but try try again! ”
